At Celtic Cur Behavior & Training we use Clicker Training to achieve the goal of the Least Intrusive, Minimally Aversive (LIMA) hierarchy. This hierarchy presents a strong order in a training or behavior change program with minimal risk of producing adverse side effects.
The International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants (of which Robin is a member) Position statement on LIMA makes the following points for its use:

LIMA Is Competence-Based

LIMA supports Positive Reinforcement and Understanding the Learner

LIMA supports Clarity and Consistency in Problem Solving

LIMA Prevents Abuse

LIMA supports Choice and Control for the Learner

LIMA asks: What Do You Want the Animal TO do?
